Clash of Clans App Critique

An app that I use regularly is Clash of Clans, this is a mobile game that I use during my downtime. The game is rather simple and is great for passing time or relaxing in the evening. It is an online multiplayer game which allows me to play with friends.

Usability-

Clash of Clans is rated E, and the recommended age is 10+. The app is compatible with IOS and Android and can be played on your smartphone, tablet, or Chromebook. The game receives three to four major updates and several smaller updates for balancing in between each major update. Clash of Clans is free, but there are in-app purchases that you can buy to help progress your village faster, as well as skins for your heroes and sceneries for your village.

Design-

Clash of Clans has a very simple design. On the left side is your trophy count, inbox, clan chat, clan war tab, army training tab, attack tab, and the event tab. On the right side is your loot totals, the base layout tab, the settings tab, the shop tab, and the news tab. These are differentiated by the left side being orange and the right side being clear. At the top of the screen is the laboratory upgrade tab, the village upgrade tab, and your active shield.

Functionality-

Clash of Clans functionality allows for the user to have a unique and fun experience. The army tab allows you to create your own armies using the troops that you have unlocked. You can create many different combinations of troops, and the game allows you to save up to six armies under the quick train tab as well as allowing you to retrain the army that you just used. Clash of Clans allows their users to create their villages any way that they like. This can be done through the base layout tab. This gives you an open area where you can place the walls and building in your own design. The news tab contains the News, Community, and Esports tabs inside of it. The new tab allows you to stay up to date with update patch notes, links to trailers for the gold pass, and the rewards for that month's clan games. The community tab has links to videos that are made by Clash of Clans content creators and the Esports tab contains links to streams of previous tournaments as well as written recaps of those events. The events tab allows users to see the current events and the upcoming events as well as how much time events have until they end and when the next ones start. The game also sends push notifications when your village is being attacked, when your clan war has started, and when you have not logged in for a long time.

Recommendations-

  1. Actively track achievements so that players can see it on their screen instead of needing to go to the profile tab to check on progress.

  1. Organize the event tab so that you can see every event on the screen at once.

  1. Change the shop so that it does not go straight to the special offers section when you open it.
